Trump filed his claim for immunity on March 7, less than three weeks before the scheduled trial date at the time. Even if Trump had filed his motion in September, his immunity claim faced other serious hurdles. The Framers were not restricting criminal prosecution of former presidents to those who had been impeached and convicted.

Even among all Americans, Trump seems to be doing better. Instead of leading many voters to distrust Trump, the legal cases are leading voters to distrust the legal system. It’s important for the public to feel that the Trump prosecutions are legitimate. For many Americans, all of these distortions validate their sense that the Trump prosecutions are partisan. As they erode public trust, public officials solidify Trump’s support.

Many other scientists greeted the announcement with skepticism because an earlier Nature paper by Dr. Dias describing a different and less practical superconducting material had already been retracted. Most fallout from a nuclear blast takes anywhere from one day to a week to return to the ground, said Zaijing Sun, a nuclear physicist at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. But some fallout gets kicked so high into the atmosphere, as much as 50 miles up, it can remain for several months to years before falling back to the surface, Sun added. Sun works as part of the Health, Environment, and Radiation Detection research group at UNLV that studies radioactive waste management, as well as applications of radiology and nuclear physics for medical uses.

Clarence Gilyard Jr., an actor best known for starring in “Walker, Texas Ranger” and his supporting performance in “Die Hard,” has died. Gilyard had been working as a film and theatre professor at UNLV College of Fine Arts. “Professor Gilyard was a beacon of light and strength for everyone around him,” UNLV film chair Heather Addison said. Gilyard returned to academia later in life, joining the department of theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as an associate professor in 2006. Gilyard also worked as a producer and director, helming an episode of “Walker, Texas Ranger.”Gilyard was previously married to Catherine Dutko.

CNN —Clarence Gilyard, the actor best known for playing computer hacker Theo in “Die Hard” and naval flight officer Marcus “Sundown” Williams in “Top Gun,” has died at the age of 66. His death was announced on Monday in a statement from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where he had been working as an associate professor at the College of Fine Arts. Gilyard played Theo, the heist crew's hacker, in "Die Hard." According to UNLV, Gilyard ventured into acting after studying Theatre Arts at California State University. Despite his accomplished acting career, Gilyard stepped away from acting in 2006 to start teaching at UNLV and directing productions at the university’s Nevada Conservatory Theatre.
